Operation and Maintenance
We have developed unique Operation & Maintenance (O&M) in-house capabilities of professionally operating & managing all kinds of hydrocarbon & related sector facilities including Midstream and DownStream. Such services have been provided to our clients abroad Suceessfully.Services which has been provided by PII is:
- Complete Operation of refineries plants/facilities on a continuous basis.This includes adoption of modern technologies and carrying out innovations for improved performance.
- Maintenance of the plant: Possess a through knowledge and backed up by several decades of operating experience and practices in the Indian and foreign refineries. This includes specialized maintenance and repair services/shut down/turn around jobs.
PII has extensive experience in Nigeria having worked at all the three NNPC refineries, i.e. Port Harcourt, Kaduna and Warri and with CONOIL.
Besides, PII has managed O&M of Galana refinery in Madagascar post privatization.
Experiences
Port Harcourt Refining Company(PHRC) , Nigeria
PII provided Operation & Maintenance services with UOP Management Services Inc.(UMS), US, consisting of 94 specialists 10 from UMS and 84 from PII providing operational assistance and Technical backup services after start up of the newly constructed 150,000 BPSD refinery at PORT HARCOURT belonging to the state owned Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) during the period 1989 to 1997. During this contract PII provided the necessary support for Maintenance and Operation of the refinery for running the refinery in an efficient manner.
It also rendered on-the-job training to Port Harcourt Refinery personnel. The technical backup team consisted of Core Management personnel, middle level managers and operators in the entire spectrum of the refinery operations.
As a result the refinery was able to achieve good capacity utilization and resulted in improvement in the performance of the refinery. Another highlight was to organize complete Turn-Around Maintenance carried out under supervision of PII team. The efforts put in were well appreciated by the management.
Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company(WRPC) , Nigeria
PII had also an opportunity to work with Nigerian National petroleum corporation (NNPC) at Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company (WRPC). Here the PII engineers worked as technical backup support for the operation of Power Plant and Utilities, including Waste Water Treatment plant.
PII had set an example of fastest mobilization to take up the job with the shortest possible notice. This testimony of the fact was appreciated by the management regarding the great spirit of co-operation shown by PII to put up the facilities and to commission the same in time.
Galana Refinery & Terminal, Madagascar
This was an assignment undertaken by Petroleum India International (PII) to take up Operation & Maintenance(O&M) of the privatized refinery under the new management. The responsibilities included exercising management control on activities day to day basis and to contribute for future growth/plans projected by GRT post privatization.
Major achievements are as follows
- Revival/rehabilitation of the facilities: Major maintenance and repair activities were carried out to revive and update the facilities like crude /product tankages, up gradation of LPG filling plant facilities, overhauling of DG sets, revival of bunkering facilities at port.
- Improvements in systems and procedures were made in areas of operations, maintenance, planning, preventive maintenance, streamlining procurement process, improvements in co-ordination/communication between departments.

- Future plans for the improvement in productivity and profitability through various means such as optimization of the units, bringing down the operating losses and studies for the addition of new dedicated Oil Jetty, Captive Power Plant.
- Along with this different challenges of implementing the planned maintenance shut down of the refinery taken up after a long lapse of 6 years. This activity was completed with the schedules committed by PII and was highly appreciated by the Board Members and World bodies like IMF and World Bank.
